BST Carbon Fiber Wheel Feature: Kraus Lone Star

Kraus Lone Star

Kraus Motor Company is an American brand dedicated to designing and manufacturing high quality, performance products for popular American motorcycle models. Their products unite the visceral and exciting feel of an American V-twin with the capabilities of a technologically advanced road handling motorcycle.

One of their latest creations, the Lone Star, is a 2003 Harley-Davidson Dyna with modern performance upgrades that enhance the spirit of the pedigree. Not just looking the part but being the part, delivering performance on par with BMW’s and Ducati’s. Ultimate setup, right attitude, yet retains the Harley soul.

Designer, engineer, and builder, Satya Kraus understands the importance of function AND performance in a custom motorcycle. He rides his motorcycles hard and knows what it takes to make them perform.

For the Lone Star build, Kraus selected BST Carbon Fiber wheels to make the most dramatic difference in the look of the bike, as well as improving the handling of this machine. And for third pary testing, Kraus handed the motorcycle over to Buddy Suttle of Unknown Industries to see if the Lone Star could handle the rigors of street abuse.

LONE STAR – AMERICAN PERFORMANCE REDEFINED

The Kraus Lone Star has been featured in Hot Bike Magazine as well as being part of their 2015 Hot Bike Tour Build-Off.

Kraus Lone Star

Starting with a standard Harley-Davidson Dyna and transforming it to possess Ducati-like handling is not an easy task for a builder. Unless that builder is Satya Kraus. For years Kraus Motor Co. has been building some of the most amazing handcrafted bikes for show and go, but this is the first time Satya has set his sites on a stock Harley in which to do so. And he did it for Hot Bike Magazine’s Hot Bike Tour Invitational Build-Off.

As you can see this bike does retain some of the looks of a stock Dyna, but its been outfitted with nothing but the world’s best parts that allow this nearly 800-pound bike from the factory to shed hundreds of pounds. A set of amazingly-lightweight Carbon fiber BST Wheels from Brock’s Performance, some massive braking enhancements from Beringer Brakes, and Ohlins suspension are the standouts of the build and really the components that make the most dramatic difference in the newly improved handling of this machine. Kraus Motor Co. specializes in making these high-end Euro parts fit on American muscle machines and Satya keeps his CNC machines busy making radial brake mounts, triple trees, Moto pro digital display kit, and all other superbike-like wonder parts for any and all models of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

This Dyna also has something that Satya hasn’t done before on a build; a set of saddlebags. “Well, this bike was going to be ridden for 5 days and a 1000-plus miles on the tour so I needed some storage space, so I went with a set of FXR Division bafs and they worked out well.” Stated Kraus. Other standouts of this build are a custom Sawicki Speed exhaust, a Trac Dynamics Swingarm, a grand of Italian Rizoma parts, and some rather intense LED lighting from Clearwater Lights making this bike one of the best custom Dynas we have ever seen.

WEEKEND RIDE WITH SATYA KRAUS ON THE LONE STAR DYNA

Available for 175 sportbikes, sport-tourers and cruisers from a dozen American, European and Japanese brands, all BST wheels are constructed in a one-piece, monocoque design and utilize carbon fiber strands woven in a unidirectional format, embedded in a resin matrix, cured in a high-pressure autoclave at 250 degrees and coated with a high-gloss finish. So what are you waiting for? Get the wheels you’ve always wanted for your bike today!

Weighing between 40 and 60 percent less than OEM wheels, BST wheels bestow sportbikes with sharper corner-carving abilities, faster acceleration, and quicker braking by weighing less than their production-bike counterparts. Lighter wheels are also easier for suspension systems to control over bumps and irregular surfaces, yielding more traction and unimpeded acceleration. Less rotating mass also equals less rider fatigue.
