I flashed my own 2017 GSX-R1000 ECM and now my bike is way down on power and runs terribly… any idea what could be wrong?

At Brock’s Performance, we pride ourselves in the knowledge, experience and tuning ability required to increase the performance of your bike…without causing harm to it. Today’s aftermarket ECU and ECM flashing tools can be a blessing, or a curse, as they give the tuner “plenty of rope to hang themselves”. We understand this and do our best to provide optimum performance results with minimal hassle/expense to you.

Please Note: We DO NOT create maps for use with the stock exhaust. We create them to match our Brock’s Performance exhaust systems with our recommended combinations (Sprint Filter, MRX02. If you elect to run our ECU flash with your stock exhaust, you do so at your own risk and against our recommendations.

@Brock Davidson just an update. I got an email back from FTecu support also talked to him on the phone

Hi William, The (2017 GSX-R1000) stock 17K82 and unrestricted 17K82 files do not share the same ignition timing. The unrestricted file has advanced ignition mapping as you get to the higher RPM and APS percentages. It is common to see the stock exhaust/cat melt when using modified timing and fuel mapping with this model. Being that all of our products are designed for closed course competition use, 99% of our customers run cat-delete or full exhaust systems. This model has one of the more restricted stock exhaust systems we have seen before. With the hand full of guys running a stock exhaust and unrestricted files, they run into the cat melting causing these drops in power/performance. I am inclined to say that you have run into the same issue here. You stated earlier that you had great power initially and had trouble keeping the front wheel on the ground. Then suddenly you felt the bike was lacking power. This gives me an even stronger feeling that the cat has melted, as this is nearly word for word with the others I have helped.

Here is the last message I received from a customer I recently helped. “Hey Kirk, Just writing to let you know that I solved my problem. If you can believe it you were exactly right, the exhaust was plugged up! Only 180 miles on it and it got plugged! I talked to my local shop and they said that they have now seen 4 2017s that they flashed with stock exhaust and slip on and they have melted the cat down. ( the bikes are down 15+hp) Anyway new exhaust is on the way, thanks again.”

Please note, a 3/4 exhaust system will not do the trick for you. You will need a full exhaust or at the least new headers and mid-pipe to get the gains you are looking for. pretty sure my cat melted causing this issue. Got to be careful with flashing and a stock exhaust Feel free to contact me with any questions, I am happy to help wherever I can.
