Motor Trend Video Feature ~ Roland Sands Design BMW S1000RR Dragbike

Roland Sands has always loved going fast, although most of the time it involves corners. That’s not the case with his first BMW S1000RR build. This bike was designed for getting down a drag strip, as fast as possible, with the least amount of hassle. The S1000RR is the perfect drag race candidate due to it’s incredible power to weight ratio. Sands has taken full advantage of the Beemer’s attributes to create a stunning looking machine, capable of deep 8 second 1/4 mile times at over 160mph, utilizing all bolt-on performance parts with no additional power adders.

Brock Davidson, President of Brock’s Performance said, “I was truly impressed with Roland’s times in his debut outing on his RR project bike. He has very little drag racing experience, but obviously, he rides very well. His 5.83 would already put him in the 8.80 range in the 1/4, but I see from the video runs, and also knowing his tune-up, that he could quickly make a couple of minor adjustments to pull a couple of tenths off of his best. That would put him solidly in the 8.60 range, which is flat hauling ass. The funny thing is, Roland had no idea how well he did; he was just having fun. I really enjoyed being involved with his project, and working with Cameron, at Roland’s shop, was a real joy also. These guys really know what they are doing.” On this episode of ’On Two Wheels,’ Super Streetbike magazine takes us inside Roland Sands Design to check out their newest project, the 2012 BMW S1000RR drag bike.
