Customers come in diverse shapes and sizes, and we’ve catered to various biking preferences. Recently, we encountered a customer with a passion for the Hypermotard vibe. He eagerly purchased a brand new 939 after a brief test ride. However, after a few weeks of ownership, it became evident that the stock Hypermotard’s height posed challenges, particularly in the stop-and-go traffic of Taipei city. Seeking a solution, he approached us with the desire to explore a “lowering a Hypermotard” concept that made sense.
While a full custom build may lack strict logic, we aimed to align the direction with the inherent nature of the Hypermotard – light, nimble, and fun. The idea of adopting a “Street Tracker” style emerged, envisioning a flat tracker-styled bike with regular tires and brakes suitable for street use.
Extensive time was invested in manipulating proportions through Photoshop rendering, experimenting with various Öhlins fork lengths. Ultimately, we settled on the FGRT207 fork, initially designed for the Kawasaki ZZR1400, with a length of 765mm. Öhlins Racing collaborated with us to custom-make a rear shock, reducing its length by 12mm, resulting in a 2-inch lower front and a 1-inch lower rear.
With the stance confirmed, we delved into the bodywork. Drawing inspiration from BOTT POWER’s David Sánchez, a friend in the industry, we chose the XR1 tail section for its perfect shape and size. Crafted from high-quality carbon fiber, it aligned seamlessly with our vision. We designed the tank and radiator shroud to complement the tail, infused with the distinctive Rough Crafts flavor.
